The Mills House
If you’re planning a trip to Charleston, you’ve likely seen the iconic "Pink Hotel" on Meeting Street. The Mills House has been a cornerstone of the Holy City for over 170 years, but thanks to a flawless recent renovation by Hilton (as part of the Curio Collection), it has successfully bridged the gap between historic Southern charm and modern luxury.
Whether you’re visiting for a romantic getaway or a weekend with friends, this is easily one of my top recommendations for a stay that feels expensive without the astronomical price tag.
The Rooms: High Design, Surprisingly Affordable
I’ve stayed in a King Studio Suite several times and have always been blown away by the space and impeccable design. Like any hotel, when occupancy is high, pricing will also be high, but I’ve been able to get very affordable rates too. The first time I stayed there, the King Studio Suite was going for $354/night! Yet it feels more like an $800 room. But even the standard rooms are wonderful; you don't sacrifice quality just because you aren't in a suite.
Rare Amenities in the Heart of Downtown
One of the biggest selling points for The Mills House is that it’s one of the few hotels in downtown Charleston with a pool. In the humid Lowcountry heat, having a rooftop pool to retreat to is a total game-changer.
The hotel is a complete "all-in-one" destination:
Dining: Grab dinner at Iron Rose, their on-site restaurant. It’s my secret spot to grab a last minute brunch when everywhere is booked up. They do a nice job with their steak frites.
Coffee: Hit The Black Door Cafe for your morning caffeine fix. Cute vibes, smooth coffee, and convenient that it’s in the lobby.
Wellness: They offer a fitness studio and daily wellness classes, like yoga by the pool, which is the perfect way to start a Charleston morning.
The Location: Walkable Perfection
Situated at 115 Meeting Street, you are quite literally in the heart of everything. You’re just a short, scenic walk away from the city’s best restaurants, the historic French Quarter, and the shopping mecca of King Street. You can park your car and not touch it again until you leave.
Final Verdict
The Mills House manages to be iconic, luxurious, and approachable all at once. Between the flawless redesign, the rare pool access, and the competitive pricing for such a prime location, it is a must-book for your next Charleston itinerary.
