Sweet, Savory, and Seriously Crispy: What to Order (and Skip) at Millers All Day in Charleston
If you are a serious foodie heading to Charleston, tracking down a stellar weekday breakfast can sometimes feel like a chore. That is exactly how I ended up at Millers All Day. Designed to look like a vintage, old-school pharmacy, this King Street spot operates on a beautifully simple concept: they serve one unified menu, all day long, seven days a week.
Whether you want a hearty lunch at 10:00 AM or a sweet breakfast stack at 2:00 PM, they have you covered. Having eaten my way through almost the entire menu across multiple visits, I’ve found that while the vibe is effortlessly cool and the highs are exceptionally high, there are definitely a few structural duds to watch out for.
Here is the ultimate layout of what to order, what to skip, and how to navigate the menu.
What Should You Order?
When Millers All Day gets it right, they absolutely nail it. If you want a top-tier brunch experience, make sure these items find their way to your table:
Home Fries: I am just going to come out and say it—these are the absolute best thing on the entire menu and rank in the top five home fries I have ever eaten in my life. They are mind-blowingly crispy on the outside, yet incredibly soft and fluffy on the inside, and perfectly seasoned. Do not try to share a plate. Highly recommend that everyone at the table orders their own side, or you will actively be fighting over them.
Hot Honey Chicken B.E.C.: An absolute triumph of a breakfast sandwich. The eggs are remarkably fluffy, and the chicken strikes that elusive balance of being both hyper-crispy and remarkably juicy. With just a subtle kiss of heat and a touch of sweetness, it easily takes the crown as the best main dish on the board.
Cornmeal Pancakes: A classic OG breakfast option. Many cornmeal pancakes suffer from being dry or unpleasantly gritty, but these are total breakfast pillows. They have a fantastic, distinct corn flavor, a perfect non-gritty texture, and are served with luxurious Falling Bark Farms hickory syrup. Plus, the flexibility is great—you can order them as a single pancake or step it up to a stack of two or three.
Pimento Cheese: This comes served with fried crackers, assorted house pickles, and a vibrant pepper jam. It is an absolute flavor bomb that hits every single taste bud—creamy, salty, sweet, spicy, and tart all at once.
Waffles: If you lean toward a sweet breakfast, these are excellent. They are soft, fluffy, and essentially channel a bananas foster vibe without being overwhelmingly cloying. They come beautifully topped with bananas, caramel, popped sorghum, and toasted meringue.
Braised Okra and Tomato: Served over striking "unicorn grits" and finished with benne seeds and micro greens. It delivers a deeply robust, savory, and authentic Southern flavor profile that feels deeply intentional.
Banana Bread: An incredible slice of house-made banana bread topped with a decadent Nutella cream cheese, fresh banana slices, and shaved chocolate.
Thick-Cut Bacon: Just a perfectly executed, classic side of thick-cut bacon. It isn't shattered to dust and it isn't limp; it’s cooked to that ideal middle ground.
What I Would Skip
While the menu has plenty of wins, a few popular staples really missed the mark for me:
The Standard B.E.C. (Bacon, Egg, and Cheese): I had incredibly high expectations for this sandwich—which features bacon, herb mayo, white cheddar, and scrambled eggs on a brioche bun—but it turned out to be a dud. While it was adequately cheesy, the smokiness of the bacon missed the mark, and the brioche bun itself was completely dried out. It’s nothing special, and honestly, most people can make a tighter version at home. Stick to the Hot Honey Chicken version instead.
Pimento Biscuit: This biscuit features smoked gouda, scallion, and bacon. Even though it's super popular with the crowds, I found it to be incredibly salty and just flat-out overwhelming in the flavor department. There are much better things to spend your appetite on here.
Brioche Donuts: These were a massive departure from what a good brioche pastry should be. Instead of being pillowy and light, the dough was incredibly dense. The pumpkin spice option tasted exactly like pumpkin pie and was passable, but the Nutella version was a disaster. Instead of a gooey, rich filling, it tasted like a runny mixture of Nutella and sour cream. It was aggressively tart, almost sour, and completely unappealing.
Definitely order a drink.
If you like a morning kick, their Spicy Bloody Mary is an absolute winner. Made with a punchy black pepper vodka and a house-made mix, it strikes a perfectly balanced chord with just the right level of sharp, peppery spice to wake you up without scorching your palate.
The Verdict
All things considered, Millers All Day is very solid. When they hit their stride—specifically with those addictively crispy home fries, the cornmeal pancakes, and that hot honey chicken sandwich—it is a fantastic, highly enjoyable spot for a casual weekday brunch. However, the dry bakery components and a few overly salty profiles keep it from being a flawless run. It is absolutely worth a stop on King Street, just order strategically.
