Phở Hương Que

Pho with Rare Steak and Meatballs - topped with Sriracha, Hoisin, Sprouts, Jalapeño, and Herbs

I LOVE Vietnamese food! It’s probably what I miss most from my travel to Asia. It’s light and flavorful, yet also super comforting.

When a few friends told me that Pho Huong Que was their favorite Vietnamese Restaurant in Charlotte, I knew I had to try. And lucky for me, they all wanted to come with! That means more food to try!

The restaurant is very unassuming and located in a strip mall off Independence Ave. Pho Huong Que is in the same plaza as the Super G Mart. When you walk in, it is very small, and humble. Just like being in Vietnam, decorations are limited. The restaurant really just focuses on the food. With that said, I do recommend going early, as even during the week, Pho Huong Que will fill up. They are also short staffed, so if you do go, don’t be in a rush.

With that said, I know what you really care about is the food - so here is what we got:

Nem Cuon: These are Fresh Spring Rolls with Grilled Pork Sausage. I’ve never had this type before, and they became my instant favorite. Savory, but clean and fresh tasting, with the perfect crunch.

Bi Cuon: These are Fresh Spring Rolls with Shredded Pork Skins. If you like pork skins, these are good. With that said, the fried flavor makes it feel far less clean - just like pork rinds.

Dau Hu Cuon: These are Fresh Spring Rolls with Fried Tofu. These were good as well. Very light, and despite being fried, still had a very clean flavor.

Multiple Types of Pho: We all ordered pho with a beef broth base, but different meat. The broth itself is perfect. Super flavorful, with just the right level of cilantro. I add in sprouts, hoisin, sriracha, lime and herbs to get it just how I like it. Fantastic!

Ap Chao Noodle Stir Fry: I did not try this, since a friend ordered as her meal, but it looked and smelled delicious! I’ll probably order it the next time I go.

Vietnamese Iced Coffee (cà phê sữa đá): I LOVE Vietnamese Iced Coffee. I didn’t get a photo of it, but definitely worth ordering. Some people at the table even ordered a second to go. They are sweet from the condensed milk, with rich, chocolatey undertones. Definitely my favorite type of coffee.
